Dr. Rupal Srivastava
I belong from a small town, Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, India known for its diverse cultural and a deep political history. I have completed my PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India and my doctoral thesis is titled- Thermoelastic and Vibration response analysis of Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) reinforced bimorph composites, where I have worked on honeycomb and auxetic cores to understand the Gaussian curvatures and the bimorph bending behaviors of the composites on thermal actuation of embedded SMA. Previously, in my Master’s degree from Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, I worked on the transverse bending and vibration response of Timoshenko Beams. For my Smart 4.0 fellowship, I have proposed an SMA based hand exoskeleton for cobotic applications wherein we derive sensing output from the Superelastic property of SMA.
Apart from research, I have also been actively involved in outreach activities promoting science and technology for young children and hygiene-based awareness programmes for women from rural areas. I aspire to continue working in a similar direction in Ireland as well, specially promoting Women in STEM by outreach activities in high schools.
In my free time I go on a cycling trip, read a book, or play the ukulele.
